High school rugby season kicks off with Boot Game

This year’s senior boys’ high school rugby season kicks off with eight local teams. Claremont, Stelly’s, Reynolds, Vic High, Esquimalt, Glenlyon Norfolk, Oak Bay and St. Michaels open their round robin regular season on March 29.

SMUS and Oak Bay open the exhibition seaon at UVic’s Wallace Field today, for the annual Gareth Rees Boot game.

Kick off is 6 p.m.

Exhibition play continues tomorrow with with Claremont hosting Spectrum, Belmont at Vic High, and Stelly’s at Esquimalt, all at the standard league time of 3:45 p.m. The regular season starts March 29 when Claremont visit Oak Bay. Claremont’s annual scrumfest should boast 30 teams from Canada and the U.S., April 7-9.

Meanwhile the struggling junior boys circuit stays afloat with four teams this year. Claremont, Oak Bay, St. Michaels, and Edward Milne (new) will host and visit each other once.
