Horseshoe Club throws doors open to guests

The Victoria Horseshoe Club is opening its doors on Saturday, March 26.

“It’s the only place in town to throw horseshoes and we’re always looking for new members – from eight years old and up,” club spokesperson Pat Kenny said.

Despite a full clubhouse and 28 pits, Kenny says the club sometimes falls under the radar, tucked into Saanich’s Glanford neighbourhood. But it’s just a couple minutes off the Pat Bay highway.

Another thing Kenny wants to remind people of is the club’s junior league.

“We have a kids league in the summer that’s a lot of fun,” Kenny said.

“And it’s all free, including food and drinks, up to 17 years old.”

The junior league starts in late May and runs until August, Wednesday nights at 7 p.m.

Adults are needed too, as the summer leagues get going in May.

“For those who come to our open house, it’s all free, everything is here, horseshoes and something to drink,” she said.

“You get an introduction to the sport and there’s plenty of time to practise for the summer leagues.”

The ladies league runs Wednesdays at 7 p.m. (same time as the juniors), while the men’s league goes Tuesdays and Thursdays during the summer, 7 p.m. Senior men’s drop in is all year round, 10 a.m. on Wednesdays.
