Mariners, Eagles square off at Lambrick

The Victoria Mariners and Eagles B.C. Premier Baseball League teams are sending a combined 11 players to play baseball on scholarship deals

The Victoria Mariners and Victoria Eagles B.C. Premier Baseball League teams square off tonight in the latest round of the local baseball derby, 6:30 p.m. at Lambrick Park.

The Eagles won the previous meeting 4-3 on May 28.

Both squads recently released a list of players heading to play collegiate and university baseball on scholarship deals next year.

The Eagles is sending off seven players, Mitch Hawkins (Vancouver Island University), Will Wild (Raritan College, New Jersey), Gobind Sall (Brown Mackie Junior College, Kansas), Brett Hull and Brandon Feldman (Otero Junior College, Colorado) and Eric Hegadoren and Vinnie Martin (University of B.C.).

The Mariners will send four players as Brendan Somers is headed to El Paso Junior College in Texas, David Warren is headed to Colby Junior College in Kansas, MacKenzie Catto will play at UBC and Drayson Lum will play for Marshalltown Junior College in Iowa.

This weekend the Eagles visit the Delta Blue Jays for a doubleheader on Saturday and two more against the Coquitlam Reds on Sunday. The Victoria Mariners visit the Abbotsford Cardinals for a doubleheader on Sunday.
