North Saanich’s Morrison owns mountain race

Dillon Morrison wins Island Cup downhill race in Port Alice

Dillon Morrison kept up his winning style finishing first in the finale of Island Cup downhill racing.

The North Saanich cyclist finished atop the podium in beginner men’s during Rumblefest in Port Alice on June 10. It was the last of five races in the Island Cup series. The teen made the podium in four of the five races.

The Marty’s Mountain Cycle team member scored the highest overall standing in the men’s beginners downhill competition for the Island Cup series.

Morrison showed his skill and determination in completing the race with a three second lead in the worst of conditions. With seven hours of rain prior to the race, the mountain was sloppy and slippery.

Team members Myles Harper and Theran Markle finished in fourth and seventh in the race respectively, while Jack Tanton, took 14th in beginners.

Dean Tennant, formerly of North Saanich, took second in men’s expert to Simon Garstin. Garstin, returning to the Island Cup series, took first place by one second. The two men competed on the world circuit together.
