Oak Bay high girls team with national players for indoor championship

A team of senior nationals and high school players alike from Victoria won the annual ladies provincial indoor field hockey championships held in Duncan, Feb. 5 and 6.

The Victoria Selects topped the University of Victoria Vikes 2-1 at Duncan’s Island Savings Centre.

Five teams attended, with the UBC Thunderbirds, Vancouver Rebels and Valley Vixens (Cowichan) coming up short against Victoria.

Ex-national team goalie Krista Thompson coached the Selects, which featured Oak Bay high school’s Kathleen Leahy and Maddie Secco, as well as Andrea Rushton, Sumeet Arujla, Jaymie Tucker, Gillian Kirkpatrick, Sheridan Goodmanson, Amanda Collinson, Rosie Beale, Annie Walter-Shumka and Sara Kegloitsch.
