Shamrocks hold 3-0 edge on Lakers after 17-3 win

Fights will happen in box lacrosse, especially in a one-sided playoff win such as the 17-3 Shamrocks' win over the Lakers

The Victoria Shamrocks discharged a barrage of shots onto the Burnaby Lakers' net on Friday while putting up an air-tight defence for a 17-3 win at Bear Mountain Arena in Game 3 of the Western Lacrosse Association semifinal best-of-seven series.

The Rocks lead the series 3-0 with Game 4 on Sunday (Aug. 11) in Burnaby. Game 5, if necessary, returns to Victoria for Monday, though reports suggest the game could be moved.

Corey Small and junior call-up Brody Eastwood scored hat tricks on Friday with Tyler Hass, Scott Ranger and Cory Conway each adding two. Matt Yager, Rhys Duch, Dan McRae, Jesse King (call-up) and Jeff Shattler each scored once.

Rocks goalie Matt Vinc stopped 27 of 30 shots while the offence chased Lakers starter Dan Lewis from the net with 11 goals on 28 shots. Backup Spencer England made 13 saves on 19 shots.

The gloves came off late in the match for three fights, ejecting Dan McRae, Tyler Burton and Greg Harnett of the Rocks.

The Langley Thunder swept the Coquitlam Adanacs in the other semifinal and await the winner of the Shamrocks and Lakers in the WLA final, for the chance to host the 2013 Mann Cup.
