Shamrocks sit on one game lead over Burnaby for week-long break

The Victoria Shamrocks head to Burnaby on Wednesday (Aug. 7) against the upstart Lakers up 1-0 in the WLA semifinal playoff series

The Victoria Shamrocks look to take a 2-0 lead in the Western Lacrosse Association semifinal playoff series against the Burnaby Lakers in Burnaby on Wednesday (Aug. 7).

The Shamrocks won the first game 12-8 on July 31 at Bear Mountain Arena.

The Rocks took a 5-2 in the first period and led 9-4 at the second intermission, out-shooting the Lakers 20-13 in the first period and 16-6 in the second, with a final shot tally of 48-34 in the Rocks' favour.

Call ups Jesse King and Brody Eastwood of the Victoria Jr. A Shamrocks fared well, with each contributing three points, King with three assists and Eastwood with a goal and three assists.

Rhys Duch and Corey Small led the Rocks with a hat trick each and Cory Conway and Scott Ranger both scored a pair of goals. Goalie Matt Vinc stopped 26 of the 34 Lakers' shots.

Victoria native and WLA rookie Casey Jackson scored one of Burnaby's goals.

The other semifinal series features the first-place Langley Thunder against the fourth-place Coquitlam Adanacs.
