UVic Vikes men to face McGill in national basketball opener in Ottawa

Loss in Canada West final determines ranking for CIS national tournament

The University of Victoria Vikes men’s basketball team almost came back from 19 points down in the Canada West conference final against the Alberta Golden Bears in Edmonton on Saturday, but lost 82-77 to take the silver medal.

The Vikes still qualified for the CIS national championships and open against the McGill Redmen in the quarter-finals in Ottawa this Friday (March 7).

Chris McLaughlin led the Vikes with 25 points and 12 rebounds against the Bears, who led by 22 at one point in the third quarter. The Vikes clawed their way back and outscored the home team 31-17 in the fourth.
