Victoria Royals have stranglehold on WHL series

6-1 Royals win in Spokane leaves Chiefs facing elimination tonight

Despite finishing in major junior hockey’s national top 10 rankings this season, Victoria Royals players were left off the Western Hockey League’s all-star teams for 2013-14.

However, head coach Dave Lowry and general manager Cam Hope are Western Conference  finalists for the league’s coach- and executive-of-the-year awards, respectively. The award winners will be announced April 17.

In team awards, top scorer Brandon Magee (67 points in 65 games)won most valuable player, Joe Hicketts top defenceman and Tyler Soy rookie of the year.

The Royals led the Chiefs 3-0 in their opening playoff series after Wednesday's 6-1 victory in Spokane. The teams play there again tonight, but if Spokane wins, Victoria will host Game 5 tomorrow (March 29, 7:05 p.m.) at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
