Local baseball fans are in for a treat next season as Victoria is set to host the Baseball Canada Senior Championships in 2017 and 2018.

Local baseball fans are in for a treat next season as Victoria is set to host the Baseball Canada Senior Championships in 2017 and 2018.

A group spearheaded by the HarbourCats with support from B.C. Senior Baseball and SportHost Victoria submitted the bid to host the tournaments.

This is the first time ever Victoria will host the two national championship tournaments, which have only been held in B.C. three times (in Prince George in 2002 and 2012 and Kamloops in 2005) since the mid-1990s.

The tournament takes place Aug. 23 to 27, 2017, and Aug. 22 to 25 in 2018. Tickets will be announced early next year.
