Victoria restaurant scores prestigious awards for fine wine, high spirits

Bar team earns Top 10 honours in Canada

Marking its fifth year in 2023, The Courtney Room in the heart of Victoria recently landed some notable awards, recognizing chef Brian Tesolin’s delicious food and the restaurant’s wine and cocktail team.

In 2018, just six months in business, the restaurant was named one of Canada’s 10 best new establishments by enRoute, the in flight travel magazine for Air Canada. It was also included in Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants in 2019 at No. 94.

The eatery continues to build on the success, most recently being awarded two prestigious drink nods. The sommelier team, lead by wine director Colin Davidson, was the only Victoria restaurant to receive a coveted gold accreditation in the 2023 Wine Program Excellence Awards – it is on one of nine in the province. The annual awards, announced at the Vancouver International Wine Festival, pay tribute to restaurants with original and creative wine programs.

The restaurant’s bar team, led by bar manager Anton Wilson, was recognized in the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation’s 17th annual Spirited Awards as a regional Top 10 honouree for Best International Hotel Bar – Canada. The annual awards celebrate global excellence in the drinks industry and the professionals, organizations and establishments shaping the cocktail community. Inspired by the region’s freshest produce, The Courtney Room focuses on Pacific Northwest cuisine and menus that feature local seasonal ingredients, with an emphasis on Vancouver Island sourcing and partnerships.
