Christmas carols, hot chocolate and sparkling lights.

The Colwood Christmas Light Up Celebration had it all and hundreds of community members made their way to Colwood City Hall Thursday night to take it all in.

The chilly temperatures didn’t stop local school choirs from singing holiday favourites under the festive lights as proud parents watched in the crowd.

Many took to the hot chocolate and coffee line to grab a drink and warm up while others filled up on hot dogs and fresh baked apple fritters.

Steven Goodman is a Colwood resident who came to the light up celebration to watch his six-year-old daughter, Avery, sing in the Sangster Elementary Choir. The two of them said they were having a good time.

Avery said her favourite song to sing was My Christmas Tree.

“She joined choir by herself,” Goodman said about his daughter. “A couple weeks ago she came to us with a sign-up sheet asking if she could come do this and we were like ‘you’re in choir?’”

Robert Horne is a Langford resident who went to the light up ceremony to see his seven-year-old daughter perform in the John Stubbs Memorial Choir. He said she was practicing a lot at home leading up to the performance and said she was excited to sing in the choir.

“It is cool, it’s impressive,” Horne said about the event.

Inside Colwood City Hall were craft activities for kids led by West Shore Parks and Recreation.

The evening was to end off with a special visit from Santa who was to arrive at Colwood City Hall by fire truck.
