Greater Victoria charity loses fundraiser vessel

Boys and Girls Clubs hoping for last-minute angel to save annual event

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Victoria needs help finding a last-minute venue for its annual gala fundraiser, after the leisure boat it rented was damaged during repairs.

The Wild About Whales cruise was scheduled for this Saturday (May 4) aboard the Orca Spirit II with 100 guests, but the vessel was damaged as it underwent its annual repairs in a Vancouver drydock last week.

“This is a real blow to our fundraising efforts," said Cheryl d'Estrubé, president of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Victoria. "The money to be raised was being directed to support our after-school programs in four communities – Langford, Central Saanich, VicWest and Esquimalt."

Organizers are appealing to anyone who can offer a last-minute alternate venue to get in touch with them by calling 250- 384-9133.

The Wild About Whales rubber whale race will still take place June 15 on the Gorge Waterway.
