Habitat for Humanity Victoria’s premier fundraiser, the Gingerbread Showcase, is back for its 15th year and registration is now open.

The annual fundraiser encourages participants to bake up and decorate their best creations based on a chosen theme to be displayed both online and in person around the winter holiday season.

This year’s theme is family traditions, which organizers say could draw on holiday traditions, summer memories and the things that bring us together for inspiration.

All entries, which can be made by individuals, families, friends, or other teams, must follow a set of rules for eligibility.

Each creation must be made entirely out of edible materials, be created on a 61-centimetre-squared base – which are available from Habitat for Humanity – and be at least 45 centimetres tall.

Completed creations will be displayed from Nov. 25, 2023, to Jan. 4, 2024, with the community invited to view them and vote for their favourites while donating to the charity to support its work to provide affordable homeownership to families in need.

Along with the top People’s Choice Award, judges will also award prizes for best first impression, best interpretation of the theme, most creative and original, and most diverse use of ingredients.
