Spinnakers earns gingerbread bragging rights

The elaborate treehouse library designed in gingerbread by Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub won the hearts of the people.

The pub’s gingerbread creation took first place in both the people’s choice and professional categories of the 2010 Great Gingerbread Showcase at the Inn at Laurel Point.

Winners in the professional, corporate and amateur categories were chosen by Jeff Bell of the Times Colonist, Ed Bain of CHEK TV and 100.3 The Q, and Norman Gidney of Douglas Magazine.

The public’s votes decided the people’s choice category by exchanging a vote for a donation to Habitat for Humanity Victoria, totalling $5,000.

Here’s how the placements came out:

1st place – Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub (professional, people’ choice); Gordon Head middle school and Victoria Women’s Sexual Assault Centre (tie, amateur); Muze Creative (corporate)

2nd place – O Bistro Oswego (professional); Boulevard Transportation Group (amateur); Shane King Realty (corporate); Sooke Harbour House (people’s choice)

3rd place – Melanie Lonsdale (professional); Costco (amateur); Canadian Home Builders’ Association Victoria (corporate); Muze Creative (people’s choice)
