Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman will grace the cover of EA Sports' Madden 15

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman is the new cover athlete of EA Sports’ long-running Madden NFL franchise, and will grace the front flap of the 2015 edition – which should be released this summer/fall.

Sherman was elected by a fan vote, defeating Cam Newton in the final round.

Both athletes were present for a live event and reveal on Friday.

“Winning the cover is a kid’s dream come true,” Sherman said (ESPN). “I would never be in the position without my fellow Legion of Boom members and teammates.”

Sherman and the Seahawks are coming off one terrific year, having just won the Super Bowl in February with a 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos.

Sherman also had the biggest play of the NFC Championship game two weeks before the Super Bowl in New York, when he tipped a pass to San Francisco receiver Michael Crabtree – the pass would be intercepted – and then delivered a rant you know doubt have seen several times, to sideline reporter Erin Andrews.

And yes, if you’re wondering, the Twitterverse has already called for the cover this year to include Andrews:
