Retire in luxury at Victoria’s newest senior residence

The complex has amenities including a movie theater, hair salon, games room, and fitness studio

For a single occupant at this luxury retirement complex, it can cost up to $15,000 a month to call this place home. The residence is opening its doors to Victoria’s senior population on Dec. 10.

Amica Senior Lifestyles has designed the Jubilee House with 125 suites that can accommodate 132 people. Residents can pay $7,600 to $15,000 a month for the suite, food, amenities, and activities,

“The moment you walk into this building you will feel that sense of home, and you’ll feel that as well within our team members that are here with us,” said Maria Eligon, the community relations director for Amica.

Construction for the privately funded Jubilee House has taken a little over two years. The residences have several care lifestyle options, including assisted living neighbourhood long-term care, respite care for short-term stays, and memory care.

“We serve those that have cognitive decline and mobility challenges they’re working through, and what we decided for this particular design to support those who’re living here is having a dining room on every floor,” said Teri Stern regional director of marketing for Amica.

Besides the multitude of dining rooms, the senior complex has a range of amenities including a movie theatre, hair salon, games room, fitness studio and craft kitchen.

“The craft kitchen for me is the most magical place in the building,” said Stern. “We allow our families if they like, to rent out that space for family occasions and holidays. So you may run into three generations baking cookies, or then hosting a family birthday party. We also do art programs there, craft classes, pretty much the sky’s the limit.”

The first move-in is on Dec. 12.

“Shortly after that, we have a lot of move-ins and back-to-back within that week,” said Eligon. “The first week we’re going to be busy with move-ins.”

The official grand opening for the Jubilee House is on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Go to amica.ca/jubilee-house to RSVP.
