A heavy police presence and search along the Galloping Goose Regional Trail in Saanich was prompted by someone showing up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound, according to police.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Saanich police said in a Tuesday evening news release.

The department did not disclose the relationship between the search area and the individual, but investigators believe the victim was targeted and there is no risk to the public.
