We know that celebrating together – uniting generations in fun, festive events and gatherings – is key to creating a safer, more enjoyable community. Esquimalt Parks and Recreation embraces that philosophy in a big way this weekend, kicking off summer with a Neighbourhood Party – and you’re invited!
In fact, friends, family and neighbours are all invited to enjoy a day full of fun summer activities and good food Saturday, June 3. The free fun runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Esquimalt Recreation Centre parking lot and Bullen field.
Don’t forget your sunscreen and hat! This year’s Neighbourhood Party offers a busy afternoon of outdoor activities hosted right beside the Esquimalt Adventure Park splash pad, for plenty of ways to cool down.
Kids can look forward to a bouncy castle, obstacle courses and lawn games like giant Jenga, cornhole and more!
Marty’s Roller Parties and Roll Right Skating Academy will provide demonstrations and plenty of skating tips during the event – the perfect opportunity to learn from the pros and explore Victoria’s growing roller skating and roller derby culture in person!
Island Rhythmic Gymnastics will also provide a free performance in Bullen field at 12:30 p.m.
A selection of local vendor booths will also be on-site, including the Capital Regional District, Greater Victoria Public Library and Esquimalt Neighbourhood House.
When the fun is done it’s time for food!
The Esquimalt Lions Club will host a cash-only barbecue with all proceeds going back to the local community. Fancy something different? Ciccio’s Cucina food truck will serve fresh pastas, paninis and other delicious Italian treats, while the Esquimalt Teen Centre will host a lemonade stand.
Alternative transportation encouraged
“We’ll be closing down the Esquimalt Recreation Centre parking lot during the festivities,” says Meghan Nicklin, Recreation Coordinator. “We encourage those interested in attending the event to look at community-friendly transportation such as public transit, walking and cycling options.
