China and Canada are joining forces to find clean energy solutions.

Fifty top energy systems researchers from both countries met at the University of Victoria during the second annual Canada-China Clean Energy Workshop, May 13 and 14.

“Our objective is to create a platform for a high level of research,” said Ron Zhang, professor in the department of energy and resource engineering at Peking University, who flew in for the collaborative opportunity. “This platform is for top scientists, industry and also the government.”

Keynote speaker Tom Pedersen of the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions spoke to delegates on the similar energy issues facing both Canada and China, a leader in solar energy. Pedersen also noted both countries could use a UVic model to make greater use of wind power.
