Don't be surprised to hear a chopper on Saturday near Victoria

Search and rescue groups to train with CFB Comox based CH-149 Cormorant at Albert Head

If you see a hovering helicopter off the West Coast of the South Island on Saturday, don't be alarmed.

The Greater Victoria-based Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and members of 442 Search and Rescue Squadron out of CFB Comox will be conducting training with a ground search and rescue (GSAR) team at the Albert Head training area in Metchosin throughout the day.

GSAR groups will participate in familiarization training with a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter and witness downwash and hoist demonstrations. Maritime Forces Pacific works regularly with civilian search and rescue partners as a way of ensuring public safety and engages in regular training.

The training session is not open to the public or the media.
