Elderly woman drives SUV off Village Bay ferry dock

Sole passenger crashes through wooden railing on Mayne Island, B.C., and has been flown to Victoria General Hospital.

An elderly woman drove her SUV off a BC Ferries dock on Mayne Island, B.C. on Thursday evening and landed upside-down on some rocks. She was rescued by a local fire crew. and flown to Victoria General Hospital.

Her injuries are not life-threatening, according to the CBC.

BC Ferries’ Deborah Marshall said the driver was heading down the dock’s ramp at Village Bay terminal, trying to board, and crashed through a wooden railing.

The driver’s name has not been released and she was the only person in the vehicle. The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. PST.
