Langford man dies in Malahat crash

65-year-old motorcyclist struck by turning car at South Shawnigan Lake Road

A 65-year-old Langford man succumbed to injuries he sustained from being struck by a vehicle on the Malahat on Monday afternoon.

The rider, whose next of kin was still being notified by Shawnigan Lake RCMP at the time of writing, was riding in the northbound lane shortly after 4 p.m. when a SUV turned off South Shawnigan Lake Road northward onto the Trans Canada Highway.

The SUV was driven by a 41-year-old Victoria woman, who was not injured in the collision. The motorcyclist sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash. Despite the efforts of emergency medical services at the scene and en route to the hospital, he passed away.

The highway was completely closed for about an hour and a half, while a RCMP collision analyst/reconstructionist conducted a detailed investigation of the crash.
