POLICE BRIEFS: Man, 74, hit in crosswalk

An elderly man was hit by a van in James Bay Monday, leaving him in hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The man, 74, was crossing the road at Simcoe and Menzies streets crosswalk with his wife at about 10 a.m. when a red Dodge Caravan hit him.

Police said the female driver didn’t see the man.She was not intoxicated.

Charges are not being considered.

Amos painting stolen from dentist

An original Robert Amos watercolour was stolen from a Fairfield dentist last week.

The painting went missing from a dental office at 1954 Fairfield Rd., as the dentist was working with his last patient of the day, at about 8 p.m., on Aug. 12.

The painting is of a storefront during the Moss Street Festival and is estimated to be worth $3,000.

Police hope the public will help to provide information on the painting or on a man who was seen in the area at the time. He is 25-30 years old, 5’9” with black hair and a goatee.
