Keep stash out of sight to avoid getting caught
Discussing your stash is probably something you don’t want to do at the corner store.
A 52-year-old Victoria man is facing heroin possession charges after an off-duty Oak Bay reserve police constable observed the man discussing his heroin with another man in a south Oak Bay shop last Thursday (March 10). The reserve constable noticed one of the men showing the other several folded-up flaps inside a baggy.
The reserve constable called in to Oak Bay police and officers followed up, stopping the two men nearby. Drugs were confiscated and one man is facing charges.
“Any kind of drug is available in Oak Bay, if you have the money to pay for it,” said Oak Bay Deputy Police Chief Kent Thom.
Cellphone strikes again as hazard on the road
A cyclist hit the back of a vehicle after the driver pulled over in a Henderson Road bike land to take a cellphone call. The woman cyclist, 25, was travelling northbound at the time of the early afternoon collision on March 8.
Vehicles are prohibited from parking in the bike lanes during peak morning and afternoon hours, but the driver had pulled over outside of those restrictions. The up-Island motorist apparently didn’t think to pull onto a side road, Thom said.
The cyclist was thrown from her bike and suffered cuts and bruises.
Random acts of smashing cause destruction in Oak Bay
A business in the 2000-block of Cadboro Bay Road, near Foul Bay Road, was broken into in the early morning hours of March 9. The front glass door was smashed and thieves stole $100 in cash.
In the wee hours of the 12th, someone threw a golf course pin and flag through the window of a vehicle parked on McNeill Ave.
The next night, a plexiglass shelter on Estevan Avenue was smashed.
Police are investigating.
