Speeding driver slams into rock face

A speeding driver escaped injury after slamming into a rock face and rolling over several times.

According to Central Saanich Police, a 21-year-old male was trying to pass two vehicles while travelling southbound on Wallace Drive and Hagan Rd. around 8:55 p.m. last night. He lost control of his red 2015 Dodge pickup truck, where he then crashed into the rock face and rolled over. He managed to free himself from the truck, and when police arrived he was standing on the sidewalk beside the wreck with only minor cuts and scrapes.

Cpl. Dan Cottingham of the Central Saanich Police said it was “miraculous that he wasn’t killed” after the accident, walking away with only “some blood on his knuckles.”

The driver also had some alcohol in his system, though he was below the legal limit. However, as he still has his N, his blood alcohol content should be 0 per cent when driving.

He was given a three-day immediate roadside suspension, a three-day vehicle impound, and a ticket for careless driving and breaching the conditions of his novice license.
