UPDATE: Saanich man up on weapons, drug charges turns himself in

Drugs and weapons charges await Kevin Wayne Jones, 30

A Saanich man being sought by the provincial Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit and wanted to face firearms and drug-related charges has turned himself in to police.

A warrant had been issued recently for 30-year-old Kevin Wayne Jones, who was arrested with the help of Saanich police April 9, but released shortly afterward as the investigation continued.

A friend saw Jones on the TV news and contacted him, after which the wanted man phoned police to say he would be turning himself in Tuesday afternoon. The fanning out of the warrant information took less than three hours to produce a result, said unit spokesman Sgt. Lindsey Houghton.

Jones had been arrested in April after officers found a 9mm handgun with the serial number filed off, plus ammunition and a pound of dried marijuana in a home in the 4000-block of Saanich Rd. He faces charges relating to possession of a firearm, as well as possession of a controlled substance.
