Victoria police seek witnesses to Bay Street altercation

Man reportedly knocked to the ground and left unconscious by another group of men early Sunday morning

A man suffered serious head injuries after he was knocked unconscious by another man in the 1100-block of Bay St. on Sunday morning.

Victoria police officers received a 911 call around 1 a.m., said VicPD Const. Mike Russell.

"The caller stated one of the people he was with was knocked unconscious during an altercation with another group," Russell said.

The caller said he saw the suspect – described as a Caucasian man in his 20's – running down Chambers Street.

The victim is now in stable condition and recovering in hospital, Russell said.

VicPD detectives want to speak with several Good Samaritans who stopped to offer assistance to the victim and his friends, as well as any witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to call the VicPD non-emergency line at 250-995-7654, or report through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
