Victoria wins award for community plan

City of Victoria receives top accolades from the Planning Institute of B.C.

The City of Victoria received top accolades from the Planning Institute of B.C. for its Official Community Plan last week.

The Gold Award for Excellence recognizes significant projects that enhance the social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being of communities, and demonstrate meaningful public consultation in policy development.

“This award is a great recognition of the thoughtful work done by citizens and staff for one of our community’s most important guiding documents,” said Mayor Dean Fortin. “Shaped by input from more than 6,000 people, the Official Community Plan reflects what is important to people in Victoria.”

The OCP was adopted by council in 2012 after more than two years of public consultation and policy development. The City’s previous plan was last updated in 1995.
