Would-be intruder apprehended by Victoria police

A Victoria woman woke in the wee morning hours Monday (April 2) to the scary sound of someone trying to get into her apartment through a window.

She looked out her window and saw a man leaving through the bushes, heading toward Richmond Street. The woman called police just before 5 a.m., and several units, including a K9 team, tracked the suspect a block away.

The 55-year-old man of no fixed address is well known to Victoria police for incidents related to mental health issues.

He was arrested for trespassing at night and breach of probation. Officers had determined the man was already on probation for assault and had been ordered by the court not to be out between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
