June 11th, 1941 – September 19th, 2016
Janet peacefully passed away September 19th, surrounded by her loving family, with her husband of 58 years holding her hand. Janet will forever be remembered by her husband John Yanchuk, sons Harry Yanchuk (Janet), Joseph Yanchuk, Gordon Yanchuk (Carmen), and Robert Yanchuk (Robyn); grandchildren Travis Yanchuk, Stephanie Dupont (Mikel), Megan Yanchuk, and Christopher Yanchuk; brother Robert Derraugh (Elaine) and their family, along with numerous other family and friends. Janet was predeceased by her father and mother, Jack and Mary Derraugh, as well as her father and mother-inlaw, Harry and Mary Yanchuk. Mom was born in Winnipeg on June 11th, 1941. As a young girl she moved with her family to Newfoundland where her dad served in the Navy. Following the war, the family returned to Winnipeg for a short time before settling in Victoria, BC. There she met he love of her life and married John. They had their first son Harry and boarded a steamer bound for Brighton, England, where John played a season with the Brighton Tigers in the English National League. John and Janet returned to Canada in 1960 and settled in Kamloops where they built their lives together and raised their 4 boys. Janet enjoyed reading, swimming, Waylon and Willie, sunny days at Uncle Joe’s cabin and following the Royal Family; but above all, Janet loved spending time with her family, especially Sunday dinners at her home where everyone was welcome. As her boys grew and left home, Janet enjoyed looking after many children in her home who held a special place in her heart, especially Tyler, Jeffrey and Michelle. The family would like to thank the staff of Blueberry Lane at Overlander Extended Care, for the compassionate care they provided our Mom. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC. A celebration of life will be held a later date, to be announced.
