Neil Surgenor passed away peacefully on January 7, 2009 after a long battle with cancer. Neil was born in Comox B.C. on December 3, 1941 and graduated from Courtenay Secondary School. He went on to achieve his CGA degree and a long career in public practice.
Neil loved music and was an accomplished pianist. He enjoyed playing at home as well as for the seniors at Castlewood Village in Castlegar. Neil will be remembered for his great wit and humour as well as his devotion to those he loved.
Neil was predeceased by his father Earl Surgenor. He leaves behind his wife of over 44 years Gwen, daughter Joanne (Brian); grandchildren Stephanie, Elizabeth and Alexander; son David, mother Georgina; brothers Lorne (Shirley) and Everett(Laverne); sister Gina (Dennis) and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Neil left this world far too soon, and we will miss him deeply.
Neil and his family wish to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Keith Merritt for his compassion, commitment and kindness during Neil’s illness. They would also like to thank the nurses and staff at the Castlegar Health Centre, the Oncology Unit and the Emergency Department at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital.
A celebration of Neil’s life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Castlegar and District Recreation & Aquatics Centre, 2101 – 6th Avenue in Castlegar at 1:00 p.m.
