Re: Jail guards face rise in ‘mental anguish’ (News, Sept. 7)
I agree with the BCGEU that jail guards will face an even more challenging and dangerous time if Prime Minister Stephen Harper gets his way with his proposed “tough on crime” bill, ignoring all the best evidence as to what works – or doesn’t.
Several U.S. jurisdictions have been intensively studied to see just how they failed with this approach. Not only will our prison guards be stressed, but the taxpayer will be needlessly burdened.
I want my tax dollars spent on crime prevention and rehabilitation of offenders that really works.
