LETTER: City street sweeper needs car-free roads

There were no parked cars and in one swoop it swept it totally bare.

Seeing the massive collection of soggy leaves on our streets, I am reminded of the amazing performance of the city’s street sweeper, just before the Goodlife Victoria Marathon runners came down our street. There were no parked cars and in one swoop it swept it totally bare.

I can’t help but think that when there are parked cars and the street sweeper is mostly in the middle of the road, it’s a total waste of money.

I know that there are schemes requiring no parking at night periodically in any given area. It may be a small inconvenience for drivers, but it would make a huge difference for efficient street sweeping. I think that Victoria should go “back to the drawing board” and resurrect such a plan.
