Worthy teachers, yes, but tactics unsavoury

Pay increase requests don't reflect economic reality

No doubt there are many teachers as worthy as the ones Mercedes Calvert describes (Letters, March 2).

Nevertheless, a group that demands a 15-per-cent pay increase in these economic times is totally out of touch with reality. Using the children as pawns in the dispute is simply despicable.

The teachers want more pay. From whom? The government. Where does government get its revenue from? Mostly from taxes. How many teachers signed Van der Zalm’s petition to deprive the government of the tax income from the HST? Do the math, teachers.
