The countdown is on for the B.C. Winter Games, which happen Feb. 20 to 23 in Mission. Among the 1,344 athletes registered to test their skills in the provincewide sports competition, 51 individuals from Greater Victoria will compete for Zone 6 (Vancouver Island-Central Coast).

Their sports range from badminton and gymnastics to judo and alpine skiing. The Capital Region is also sending athletes to compete in wheelchair and Special Olympics basketball events.

The B.C. Games are designed as a developmental competition for younger athletes, usually between 13 and 15, as well as coaches and officials in a wide range of sports. Visit bcgames.org for more information.
