Field Lacrosse Provincials: MVP Jesse King leads Victoria to U19 gold

The turf field complex of University of Victoria was abuzz with the top tier of B.C. Lacrosse Association field lacrosse team’s on the weekend, Feb. 18-20. Twenty-nine teams from Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland competed for Tier 1 youthfield lacrosse supremacy in the Under 12, 14, 16 and Under 19 age groups.The Tier 1 competition is the first weekend of the BCLA field lacrosse provincials, as the Tier 2 division provincials are in New Westminster, Feb. 25-27. Victoria competed at all four levels, sometimes with two teams as Victoria and the Pacific Rim, but only the U19 team Vic side won gold. Leading team Victoria to the U19 gold was Jesse King, named the the Warrior Sports Canada Most Valuable Player. Victoria edged New Westminster 15-14 for gold in the U19 final. In the U16 final the Coquitlam Adanacs outplayed New Westminster 15-11 for gold, while the U14 Adanacs came up with silver, losing in the final game to New Westminster, 10-4. Pacific Rim won bronze in the U16 and U14 levels over Victoria and Port Coquitlam, respectively.
