Oak Bay, GNS in Ryan Cup final

Glenlyon Norfolk School's Sarah Douglas heads a goal against Claremont in Monday's Ryan Cup semifinal. GNS won 3-0 and play Oak Bay in the Ryan Cup

It took a mighty effort to upset Parkland in the Ryan Cup semifinal on Tuesday but Oak Bay pulled it off, winning 3-2.

Glenlyon Norfolk won their semifinal 3-0 over Claremont on Monday.

GNS and Oak Bay meet in the Ryan Cup city championship final today at UVic. The Ryan Cup is a crossover tournament of A, AA and AAA ranked teams.

It didn’t look good for Oak Bay on Tuesday when Parkland went up 2-0 early. A safe lead in most soccer leagues, nothing is certain in high school. Still in the first half Oak Bay retaliated with goals by Maddie Secco and Sanja Dodos. The game then settled down from four goals in the first half to just one in the second half, the game winner from Oak Bay’s Bo Large.

GNS overpowered Claremont in the other semifinal. Single-A GNS showed the quality of their program, undoing Claremont, the reigning AAA provincial champions.

Scoring for GNS were Sarah Douglas and sisters Georgia and Marysia Grzybowski.

Respective A, AA and AAA Island tournaments are this weekend, with the AAA tourney going at UVic.
