Salmon Kings fold, spawning new era of WHL

Management of the Victoria Salmon Kings officially gave the club’s membership back to the league on May 6 after seven years in the ECHL.

The announcement officially ends the team’s existence as the primary tenant of Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, the Victoria city owned arena run by the Salmon Kings’ parent company RG sports and entertainment.

Also terminated is the Vancouver Canucks (NHL) and Manitoba Moose (AHL) affiliation with the Salmon Kings ECHL team. Players have been awarded free agency.

The team estimates its philanthropic efforts have directly or indirectly helped to raise more than $1.5 million.
