Victoria Royals continue winning ways on eastern road trip

Royals' play of late keeps them on the Canadian Hockey League national rankings list

The Victoria Royals won their seventh straight Western Hockey League game Wednesday night in Brandon, beating the Wheat Kings 5-3.

The visitors built a 4-1 lead after 20 minutes on goals by Logan Nelson, Tyler Soy, Steven Hodges and Austin Carroll. Keegan Kanzig, with a snap shot from the slot midway through the second period to round out Victoria's scoring.

Patrick Polivka picked up the win in goal for the Royals, stopping 24 shots.

Victoria (42-16-1-3), 3-0 on their current road trip, continues its travels through the Eastern Division with a game in Regina against the Pats on Friday. They play in Saskatoon and twice in Prince George before returning home for back-to-back homes games March 7 and 8 against the Kamloops Blazers at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

This week's BMO Canadian Hockey League rankings saw the Royals rated 10th overall for a second straight week.

Kelowna, who retained its spot at #1 in the rankings, sits 10 points ahead of the second-place Royals in the WHL's Western Division. Victoria has a 20-point margin over third-place Vancouver Giants.
