The Victoria Royals knocked down the Moose Jaw Warriors 3-0 as goalie Griffin Outhouse recorded his seventh career WHL shutout.

Outhouse was sharp throughout the night as he stopped all 36 shots directed his way, that featured several acrobatic saves in the third period. The Royals, led by Outhouse, held a high-flying Warriors’ offense off the scoresheet, which included two of the top 10 scorers in the WHL in Jayden Halbgewachs and Brayden Burke.

The Royals’ Tyler Soy opened the game’s scoring with a wicked wrist shot under the bar mid-way through the opening period. Victoria tallied a pair of goals in the middle frame as Vladimir Bobylev beat outstretched Warriors’ netminder Zach Sawchenko. Matthew Phillips capped off the scoring when he registered his team-leading 28th marker of the season in the late stages of the second stanza.

Moose Jaw’s Sawchenko turned aside 27 of the 30 he faced.

Victoria is currently on a five-game road trip, which began on Tuesday against the Vancouver Giants. The Royals then head to Edmonton to take on the Oil Kings Jan. 19, followed by matches against the Calgary Hitmen Jan. 20 and the Red Deer Rebels Jan. 21, before closing out the trip with another game against the Giants.

The Royals return to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Saturday, Jan. 28 to face the Giants. Puck drop is slated for 7:05 p.m.
