Sooke Harbour House, the renowned inn located on Vancouver Island, is preparing for a new era as its extensive renovations near completion.

Stepping into the spotlight are two accomplished food and hospitality industry veterans who will lead the iconic establishment.

Executive chef Melissa Craig, who began her career at Sooke Harbour House as an apprentice chef at the age of 18, is returning to her culinary training ground.

Craig, who grew up on the Island, has a deep connection to Sooke. This is where she received her culinary training and developed her enduring love for food and cooking.

“I am deeply honored to be back where it all started for me,” she said.

After leaving a 20-year legacy at Whistler’s Bearfoot Bistro, Craig is eager to bring her innovative and modern Canadian cuisine to Sooke Harbour House at 1528 Whiffin Spit Rd.

Partnering with Craig in both life and career, is Andre Saint-Jacques who assumes the role of managing partner at Sooke Harbour House. Saint-Jacques played a significant role in the success of Whistler’s renowned Bearfoot Bistro.

“Melissa and I have achieved so much at Bearfoot Bistro, and now it’s time for a new chapter in our lives,” said Saint-Jacques. “We couldn’t imagine a better place than Sooke Harbour House to embark on this new adventure.”

Saint-Jacques promises guests an “exceptional dining experience and luxurious accommodations” when the hotel reopens its doors later this year.

“It will be nothing short of spectacular,” he said. “We have a plethora of incredible ideas for innovative and one-of-a-kind experiences. Our goal is to create lifelong memories for our guests.”

AIG Enterprises purchased the property, which includes a 28-room hotel and restaurant, for $5.6 million in July 2020, with the intention of transforming it into a destination with a West Coast vibe for both visitors and locals.

Saint-Jacques admires the renovations done by AIG to improve Sooke Harbour House. The renovations respect the building’s history and add modern touches to the rooms and public spaces.

“We are thrilled about the additions to the hotel, including the new outdoor dining areas and other features that will provide our guests with a variety of experiences,” Saint-Jacques said.
