Hundreds of people lined the lawn of the B.C. Legislature Thursday evening, for the 39th annual Christmas Lights Across Canada celebration.
Spencer Chandra Herbert MLA Vancouver-West End and deputy speaker, started the night off sporting a Santa hat and welcoming the crowd.
Shirley Alphonse from Hul’q’umi’num People of Cowichan Nation and Grae Lore, MLA for Victoria-Becon Hill also spoke from the steps of the B.C. Legislature.
The evening kicked off with songs from the Victoria Children’s Choir followed by four specially selected Christmas “elves” who were to help light up the festivities.
With a flick of the switch, the large legislature building a sequoia tree came alive with lights, just after 6:30 p.m.
Christmas Lights Across Canada was introduced in 1985 and features monuments and sites in provincial and territorial capitals throughout Canada coming together to celebrate the holiday season.
