'12 Years a Slave' is heavily favoured to win Best Picture, along with 'Gravity' and 'American Hustle'...

If quantity’s the game, American Hustle and Gravity are ahead at halftime.

Both films scored 10 nominations each on Thursday morning, trailed by 12 Years a Slave with nine, when actor Chris Hemsworth and Cheryl Boone Isaacs read off the finalists for this year’s Academy Awards.

Nebraska, Captain Phillips, and Dallas Buyers Club each nabbed six nominations, and all were nominated for Best Picture.

Scoring nods in the Best Actor column were the recently honoured Golden Globe-winning performances of Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street) and Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), joined by Christian Bale (American Hustle), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), and Bruce Dern (Nebraska).

Snubbed from the category? Oscar Issac (Inside Llewyn Davis), Joaquin Phoenix (Her), Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips), and Robert Redford (All Is Lost) all failed to receive Oscar recognition.

The Best Actress category will be a five-way fight between Amy Adams (American Hustle), Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine), Sandra Bullock (Gravity), Judi Dench (Philomena), and Meryl Streep (August: Osage County).

Emma Thompson failed to receive a nomination for her performance in Saving Mr. Banks.

Golden Globe winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category, along with Michael Fassbender (12 Years a Slave), Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street), Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips), and Bradley Cooper (American Hustle).

Jennifer Lawrence was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in American Hustle, sharing the category with heavily favoured Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) as well as Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine), Julia Roberts (August: Osage County), and June Squibb (Nebraska).

For the third straight year, nine films were nominated for Best Picture.
