2 injured inmates prompt criminal police investigation at Saanich jail

Saanich police is investigating after two inmates were injured Saturday at the Vancouver Island Regional Correction Centre on Wilkinson Road.

Officers were called for an incident between two inmates on Oct. 21 around 8 p.m.

No correctional officers were involved, but two residents of the facility suffered non-life threatening injures, Detective Sgt. Damian Kowalewich told the Saanich News.

The department called its forensic team to work in partnership wth BC Corrections on the criminal investigation.

The correctional centre on Wilkinson Road in Saanich is one of 10 in B.C. housing an average of 2,400 individuals.
