Development company Townline is looking for community input on a proposed development for the old Mayfair Lanes bowling alley property at the corner of Tolmie Avenue and Oak Street, according to an area neighbourhood association.

Built in 1963, the 10-pin Mayfair Lanes bowling alley hosted leagues, and every week teens and young adults would visit for the glow-in-the-dark, Wednesday night rock and bowl up until it closed.

Loblaw purchased the property in 2005. It was torn down in 2006 and has remained vacant since.

The latest application, made in December 2022, proposes a three-tower, mixed-use residential (555 units) and commercial development with a Real Canadian Superstore anchoring the project.

According to the District of Saanich development tracker, the proposal would require site-specific zoning to allow for three towers of 21 to 24 storeys on the 13,670-square-metre site.

Quadra Cedar Hill Community Association issued a notice to its members of an open house, with Townline in attendance, on Sept. 14 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Ukrainian Cultural Centre, 3277 Douglas St.
