Drivers are being warned about delays that will slow their commuter through Esquimalt.
Paving work along Tillicum Road is expected to cause delays for commuters next week, according to the township.
Milling and paving will be taking place between Craigflower Road and the Gorge Bridge as part of the Lampson-Tillicum Active Transportation Project.
The paving work is taking place between Monday and Friday, Oct. 23 to 27. Traffic control personnel will be on hand to help direct traffic, said a news release. There will be single-lane alternating traffic from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., with two lanes flowing outside of those times.
In addition, the signal sequencing at Craigflower and Tillicum is being reprogrammed to improve the flow of vehicles going through the intersection on Tuesday. To do the work, the intersection will be functioning as a four-way stop. Significant delays are expected and commuters are advised to use alternate routes.
Plan highlights include protected bike lanes on Tillicum Road from Gorge to Craigflower with further connections to Lampson southbound on Tillicum and east/west on Craigflower. Lampson Street will include protected bike lanes from Esquimalt Road to Transfer Street and a short section of neighbourhood bikeways on Lampson between Craigflower and Transfer.
The removal of an aging/redundant traffic signal at Head Street and Old Esquimalt Road has been completed as well as improving pedestrian crossings near that intersection.
