As another round of snow falls on Vancouver Island, the Malahat and east Vancouver Island could see 10 to 20 cm of the white stuff Thursday (Jan. 18).
A Pacific low pressure system combined with cold outflow winds from the mainland inlets will produce snow over east Vancouver Island on Thursday afternoon, according to Environment Canada. Areas near the Strait of Georgia can expect 10 cm while inland areas can expect up to 20 cm.

Driving could get even more treacherous on the Malahat and in Nanaimo overnight with a risk of freezing rain during the transition from snow to rain.
Rain is in the forecast for all areas of the Island Friday.
Snowfall closed schools and interrupted both transit and Canada Post on Wednesday.

Classes returned to usual Thursday, with most buses running, at all three school districts in the region.
Curbside recycling pickup, however, is cancelled on routes scheduled for Jan. 18. The Capital Regional District cancelled blue box collection “due to unsafe weather and road conditions in the region.”
Residents are asked to hold their recycling until their next collection day.
There is no limit on how much recycling can be placed at the curb. Recyclables can also be dropped off at a depot free of charge. For a list of depots visit crd.bc.ca/curbside.
