Inclement weather has caused a significant decline in water pressure within the Port Renfrew Water System.
Water operators are actively working to identify potential leaks in the system.
To pinpoint the source of leaks, residents are urged to conserve water and refrain from non-essential use, such as washing dishes and doing laundry. Immediate reporting of any observed leaks is requested by contacting the emergency line at 1-855-822-4426.
“If you’re at a high elevation, you probably have no water; if you’re at a lower elevation, you likely still have water,” said Jason Dales, senior manager wastewater infrastructure operations for the Capital Regional District.
Dales said based on electronic analysis, there is a risk of the reservoir losing storage by the end of the day.
“By using less water for non-critical activities, there is a greater opportunity to allocate water for essential needs such as drinking and eating,” he said.
As a precaution, residents serviced by the Port Renfrew Water System are advised to prepare for a water outage as water pressure is steadily decreasing due to a suspected leak in the distribution system.
The Port Renfrew Water System, providing drinking water to approximately 187 service connections in Beach Camp and Snuggery Cove, is located in the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area.
