Prisoner dies in custody at Metchosin prison

A prisoner has died in custody at the William Head Institution in Metchosin.

The Correctional Service of Canada said in a news release Friday (Sept. 8) that Richard Paul Preston died in custody on Sept. 2.

Preston was serving an indeterminate sentence since April 1994 for second-degree murder at the time of his death.

No further details on what led to his death were released by CSC, other than the fact his next of kin have been notified.

CSC is investigating the circumstances of his death, and has notified police and the coroner’s office.
